Images from Summer 1978, when entertainer John Davidson created what would be the prelude for training opportunities like "American Idol" at a his summer camp on Catalina Island. Talented students were selected from all over America to spend 4 weeks at the JDSSC camp, located in Toyon Bay (outside of Avalon) learning the craft of the singing entertainer. Guest artists - including Kenny Rogers, Andy Williams, Florence Henderson, Pete Barbuti, Shields & Yarnell, Pierre Cossette and Dwight Hemion - came to the school for intensive classroom sessions.
